Majestic Sponsors First Middle School Groups at National Percussion Festival

Austin, Texas, USA–  January 25, 2010 –  Along with the introduction of new concert stage models, Majestic concert percussion’s excitement for 2010 extends to Music for All’s National Festival in March.  Marking the first year middle school percussion ensembles have been invited to audition, Dickerson and Simpson Middle School percussion ensembles were the only middle school groups accepted.  Directed by Majestic artists Scott Brown and Mike Lynch, respectively, both also perform on Mapex and Majestic concert percussion.

Under the direction of Scott Brown, Dickerson Middle School’s percussion ensemble has performed extensively at nationwide events including, the 2008 Midwest Clinic, 2006 Percussive Arts Society International Conference and the National Middle School Association’s 20th Annual Conference.  The ensemble performs a wide variety of percussion literature to provide students exposure to different musical styles and traditions.

The Simpson Middle School percussion ensemble receives regional acclaim in Georgia because it feeds into the infamous Lassiter High School program where Mike Lynch is the Director of Percussion Studies.   However, since they don’t travel or perform nationally, it makes their acceptance as one of the first middle school percussion ensembles at the National Festival even more exciting for the students.

Congratulations to these young percussionists and good luck at the National Festival.  Since 1992, the Bands of America National Festival acknowledged as one of the premier educational events for America's high school concert bands. The Festival's mission is to focus a national spotlight on the core of our nation's band programs, the concert band.  The Percussion Festival was added in 1997, to shine a spotlight on outstanding percussion ensembles and give percussion ensembles, students and teachers a place to perform, receive evaluation and share with other ensembles on a national stage.
