New Gottry Work Premiered by Matt Holm
AUSTIN, TEXAS – April 21, 2009 – Majestic percussion artist Matt Holm recently premiered
a new work from composer Josh Gottry. The performance of the “Transitions for Percussion
Solo and Wind Ensemble,” took place on April 19th, at the Northern Illinois University
Boutell Memorial Concert Hall with the Northern Illinois University Wind Symphony under
the direction of conductor Dr. Thomas Bough.
“We are grateful to have had the opportunity to hear our new marimba in a performance
setting such as this. Mr. Holm is very complimentary of our instruments and has been
strong supporter of Mapex and Majestic. He is an exciting young talent, and it has been
a great honor to have been involved in the premier of this new work by Josh Gottry.”
Holm performed on the Majestic M8650H 5 octave professional marimba and 10”/12”/13”/14”
Mapex Artist Series double headed concert toms.
Gottry describes “Transitions,” as a concept of a single day and the gradual shifts and
changes within it. There are three distinct but related segments reflected in the piece:
Dawn, Day, and Dusk, forming uninterrupted movements in a slow-fast-slow format.
