Wolfgang Basler
Wolfgang was born on June 30, 1944 in Weidenau / Sieg, Germany. He studied percussion with E. Vedder and later with Walter Liephold, solo timpanist of the Gürzenich-Orchestra, Cologne. From 1965 to 1988 he was the lead drummer in the German Army Band 100 Munster. Afterwards he taught at the AusbMusKorps.Bw (Central School of Military Music) in Hilden for eight years.
Wolfgang's technical and
musical abilities attracted the attention of SONOR, where he worked for almost 18 years
as a consultant and product manager for Marching & Concert Percussion. In 1995 he
moved to Pearl and took care of the orchestral section
of the SABIAN Cymbal lines. He arranged numerous cymbal workshops, which was an
innovation in Germany and attested to his specialty in the field of
Sabian Cymbals. From 2004 to 2010 he worked at Yamaha Europe as a product specialist
in drums.
Starting on July 1st, 2011 Wolfgang Basler has served the customers and dealers of Majestic Holland in Germany and is responsible for sales in Germany.
In addition to his extensive work experience, from 1978 to 1995 Wolfgang was a Lecturer of the International Society for Music Education Training (IGMF) and teacher of percussion at the Westphalian School of Music in Münster and at the music school Ludinghausen until. Also during that time, Wolfgang wrote two educational books for drums and several drum compositions. A new edition of the first book in a revised form was released in 2008 and the second book will be revised in 2012 by R & B Music.
Wolfgang is a founding member of the German Association for Percussionists "Percussion Creativ e.V."
Wolfgang's other credits include: Lecturer at the Academy in Trossingen (teachers - association of German Music Schools). Same activities in Austria and Hungary. In numerous national academies Wolfgang Basler taught over 35 years drummers from the German Associations of Music Bands. He has also served as an Adjudicator at competitions of the German Music Council.
Wolfgang has collaborated intensively with many percussionists such as Joachim Sponsel, Prof. Udo Dahmen, Prof. Jose J. Cortijo, Prof. Harry Lane, Speri Karas, Alfons Grieder, Prof. Bent Lyloff, Claus Hessler, Andrea Schneider, Wolfgang Schneider, Rob Carson, Robert Brenner Jörg Lesch, Gereon Hohmann, Marcel Bach, Martin Hohmann, Dirik Schilgen, Holger Hälbig and Holger Mueller.

Während einer technischen Ausbildung erhielt er zunächst Privatunterricht bei E.Vedder
mit anschließendem Studium in Köln bei Walter Liephold - Solopauker Gürzenich - Orchester
Köln.
Ab 1965 Militärmusiker als 1. Schlagzeuger im Heeresmusikkorps 100 Münster bis 1988.
Danach unterrichtete er 8 Jahre im AusbMusKorps.Bw (Zentrale Ausbildungsstätte des MilMus.)
in Hilden. Seine technischen und musikalischen Fähigkeiten nutzte die Fa. SONOR fast
18 Jahre als Berater und Produktmanager für Marching & Concert bis 1995. Danach erfolgte
der Wechsel zu PEARL in gleicher Tätigkeit bis 2003. Gleichzeitig kümmerte er sich im
Orchesterbereich der Fa. SABIAN um neue Beckenlinien. Zahlreiche Becken - Workshops wurden
in Deutschland erstmalig von ihm durchgeführt und seine Spezialität im Bereich Becken
von Sabian 1999 beurkundet. 2004 erfolgte der Wechsel zu YAMAHA – Europe als Produktspezialist
in Sachen Schlagzeug bis 2010.
Ab 01.Juli 2011 betreut Wolfgang Basler die Kunden und Händler der Fa. Majestic Percussion/Holland
in Deutschland und ist für den Vertrieb in Deutschland zuständig.
1978 - 1995 Dozent der Internationalen Gesellschaft für musikpädagogische Fortbildung
(IGMF) und Lehrer für Schlagzeug an der Westfälischen Schule für Musik in Münster bis
1988 sowie an der Musikschule Lüdinghausen. In dieser Zeit entstanden 2 Trommelschulen
und Trommelkompositionen.
Neuauflage der Schulen in überarbeiteter Form 2008 und 2012 bei R&B-Music.
Gründungsmitglied des deutschen Percussionisten-Verbandes „ Percussion Creativ e.V. “
Dozent der Bundesakademie Trossingen (Lehrerfortbildung – Verband Deutscher Musikschulen). Gleiche Tätigkeit in Österreich und Ungarn. An zahlreichen Landesakademien in Deutschland unterrichtet W. Basler Schlagzeuger vom Bund Deutscher Blasmusikverbände seit über 35 Jahren. Juror bei Wettbewerben des Deutschen Musikrates.
